HAHAHAHAHAH!

I don't think I can watch tonight's debate. Their actual input into the process is very slight, and I'm pretty sure I have a firm grip on where they stand. The only thing I think I'd walk out of this debate with is an increased sense of political despair.

Oh, you missed the best part. Her body was actually possessed by Ronald Reagan for a minute, and she used the there you go again line. Then her head spun around, and she vomited pea soup all over Biden.

This debate is doing absolutely nothing to convince me that Palin is anything more than a Barbie doll. A STUPID Barbie doll. Who the hell says "nucular" these days?

Oh, wait. That's right. Our illustrious (bwaha) Commander in Chief.

I weep for this country if she gets into office.

cheers,
Phil

Y'know, I've been willing to give a pass on "nucular," because Jimmy Carter's pronunciation is even worse, and he used to be the chief engineer on a nucular sub.

I was making up my own drinking game as it went along, and was sad that I didn't actually have a drink. It should be two drinks for every Ahmedinijad.

Palin's a hypnotist, I think. She did a decent job, and I actually found myself enjoying listening to her. But I don't agree with anything she believes in. So why did I like her?!

What were your thoughts?

She did better than my expectations, which I held none from her, but she still can't directly answer questions, and making her the Eliza Doolittle of the debates is still not going to excuse her past weeks of idiocy. They were all prepared answers for her rife with buzzwords. And invoking McCain and Reagan's names.

My fear is, the fact that she WASN"T completely terrible will reignite "Palin-Mania" all over again. "She looked at the camera! She MUST care about all of us!"

This was one, just one, instance where she didn't look like a total moron, but she was definitely rehearsed well in advance and devoid of spontaneity.

The fact that a liberal media was declaring 'no winner' or 'both won' tells me everything I need to know.

Biden really fucked this one up handily.

However, if we were electing Presidents on VP debates, Dukakis should have won '88.

I think Biden won but it wasn't a overwhelming win. Perhaps since the bar was so low for Palin, it looked like Palin performed better (to some people anyway). However once you get past that you can see the mediocre performance from Palin.

Like someone said on Reddit, Biden answered the questions asked and Palin answered the questions nobody asked.
She looked like someone with prepared zingers and by God she was going to fit her answers around them.

However I think with all things considered that's just fine considering the risk of Palin shedding a tear and tugging at the heartstrings.

I'm sure there was a concern from the Obama Campaign about the appearance of Biden attacking Palin too aggressively and looking like a bully.

eg. Breaking: Biden viciously attacks Hockey Mom with disabled child.

I just hope people see fast the vapid folksy cheerleader persona and give some serious thought about this airhead running our country (or running it into the ground).

"Palin answered the questions nobody asked."

Yeah, and after the third time she did that, and Biden pointed it out, she informed him that not answering the questions is all part of being a plucky little maverick. It was a standard "why do you hate the troops" deflection which she's learned to use, just like when Couric asked her what newspapers and magazines she reads, and she answered "any of them, all of them" and then quickly pivoted into "what...do you think Alaska is some foreign country up there, where we don't GET newspapers? Why do you hate Alaska?..."

So, I don't think anybody was surprised by her using that rhetorical device in a debate, but what I did find surprising was how many of the news outlets actually repeated it without challenging it. Sheesh...

I had a gig last night so I missed the debate. But what I've seen of her already has convinced me she's basically Dubya with better tits. An 'electable' folksy, faux-populists empty suit to keep the plebes cooled out while the real business of fleecing the electorate and consolidating power continues behind the scenes.

The funny part is that Palin and Bush are poster children for an aspect of liberalism that's been denounced by conservatives for years-the self esteem movement. They get elected because they appeal to anti-intellectuals who think the world have been ruined by smarty-pants elites and will be saved by people just like them.

In perusing the transcripts this morning I noticed Palin channeling Reagan on more than one occasion.

Palin's final quote was from Ronald Reagan, warning that without vigilance, "you and I are going to spend our sunset years telling our children, and our children's children, what it once was like in America when men were free."

Adroit use of Mr. Google reveals that Reagan was not referrencing some doombot existential threat like a communist takeover. He was talking about an 'end of freedom in American' if we introduced medicare.

ok, so I've had it drilled into me by linguists that nucular is a perfectly acceptable pronunciation (and "eye-rack" and "eye-ran" grate on waaaaaay more, and that seems to cross party lines), so I have to admit I could kind of care less, but, like you, I was fucking *floored* by her effortless correct pronunciation of Ahmadinejad. More than once! LIke,wait,- wha?

Maybe she is actually some kind of foreign policy idiot savant!

Sometimes I tell people who get all irritated about the pronunciation of "nuclear" that the word "avuncular" is actually pronounced "avunclear." Some of the dimmer ones buy it.
